Job description

CITY OF STAUNTON

Equipment Operator I-Utilities

The City of Staunton’s Public Works Department is seeking an Equipment Operator I to join its team in the Utilities Division.

Successful candidate safely operates light and medium duty equipment in the construction, repair, and maintenance of City water and sewer lines. Equipment used includes, but is not limited to, utility truck, dump truck, air compressor, and hand/power tools. Requires considerable manual labor in the repair and maintenance of water and sewer lines at all times of day, in all weather conditions. Services and makes minor repairs to equipment.

VA Class A CDL license with tanker endorsement and good driving record required. Applicants with a CDL but without the tanker endorsement will have 2 months to obtain the endorsement. Applicants with competitive work experience without CDL will be considered at a lower classification upon condition of obtaining CDL with tanker endorsement within 6 months of hire.

Ability to follow instructions, problem solve, work, and think both independently and effectively in a team environment is required. Operational knowledge of backhoe, sewer, and water lines preferred. Ability to perform after-hours standby duty on a rotational basis required.

Compensation: $17.11/hr or higher DOE/DOQ (+) excellent benefits. Position is open until filled.
