NEEDED: Equipment Operator I / Tractor Operator

LOCATION: COLUMBUS CIVIC CENTER 400 4th St, Columbus, GA 31901

HOURS: As Needed/ Event Driven, 7 days a week, Monday-Sunday, 12:00 AM – 12:00 PM

DRESS CODE: Black or brown shoes and black pants

REQUIREMENTS:

• Dependable Transportation
• Dependable and punctual attendance

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

• Operates tractors, stump grinders, dixie choppers, and chain saws.
• Waters trees along assigned route. Stakes trees. Prunes freshly planted trees.
• Drives a truck with a water wagon attached.
• Mows grass. Plants trees.
• Assists with 911 calls.
• Operates a two-way radio to send and receive messages.
• Performs supervisory duties in the absence of the Public Services Supervisor.
• Carries out a continuous effort to improve operations, work processes, and works cooperatively and jointly to provide continuous improvement and customer-driven service.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of the layout of the city. Knowledge of practices of tree pruning.
• Skills in the operation of tractors, stump grinders, dixie choppers, and chain saws.
• Skills in oral and written communication.

Educational and Training Requirements:

• Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of specialized training in the occupational field, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
• Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
• Must possess a valid driver's license.
• A Commercial Driver's License is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

• Work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending, or crouching.
• Occasionally lifts light objects, frequently lifts heavy objects, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and distinguishes between shades of color.
• Work is typically performed in a stockroom, warehouse, or outdoors where the employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, irritating chemicals, and cold or inclement weather.
• Requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, or gloves.
