Job summary

DelDOT is seeking an entry-level Equipment Operator I to join the Maintenance & Operations team. The role involves learning department rules, operating on/off-road equipment, snow removal, and environmental responsibility, under supervision.

Applicants must obtain and maintain a CDL Class A or B during the 90-day probation. Pre-employment drug testing and E-Verify are part of the process, with accommodation options available.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
• Knowledge of operating a variety of equipment used in repair, maintenance, and development of roads, grounds, or structures.
• Knowledge of operating motorized equipment used for groundskeeping, snow removal, or hauling materials.
• Possession of a valid Driver’s License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

Responsibilities

• Drives and controls on/off-road equipment to haul supplies to and from the work site.
• Operates equipment with integrated systems and controls.
• Operates mobile equipment and hand tools to dig, ditch, slope, grade, backfill, and clear areas.
• Loads and unloads rock, debris, earth, trees and materials using various equipment.
• Performs general repairs using hand tools and power equipment.
• Responds to environmental/highway emergencies including snow removal and spills.
• Uses traffic control techniques to manage vehicular movements.
• Conducts preventive maintenance and inspections on assigned equipment.
• May operate draw and swing bridges as needed.
