Job summary

The West Virginia Department of Transportation is seeking a Transportation Worker 2 Equipment Operator to perform skilled highway construction and maintenance tasks, including operating skid steer, bucket truck, loader, dump trucks, and snowplows. The role includes major repairs to highways, culverts and bridges, and routine field mechanical work.

This position may require irregular hours, weekends, and overtime.

Qualifications

• No formal education required.
• Valid Class A or Class B CDL required.
• No substitutions for the CDL requirement.
• Apprenticeship program through the WVDOT.

Responsibilities

• Operate highway maintenance equipment such as skid steer, loader, and trucks.
• Perform major repairs to highways, culverts and bridges.
• Conduct minor field repairs and maintain equipment.
• Flag traffic, set signs and perform maintenance tasks on projects.
• Travel as needed and hold a valid driver's license.
