Job summary

Louisville Metro Government is seeking a CDL-qualified operator for the 2nd shift (Wednesday-Sunday, 9A-5P). The role involves manual labor and operating a range of vehicles and equipment, including snow plows and spreaders, with a focus on safety and reliability.

The position requires a valid Class A CDL with tanker endorsement (or ability to obtain within 3 months), plus attendance at trainings and adherence to DOT and OSHA rules.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or the equivalent.
• One year of heavy equipment operation experience with garbage packer truck, haul truck, wood-chipper, water truck or similar.
• Must pass pre-employment and random alcohol and drug tests as required by the Department of Transportation.
• Must wear safety equipment as mandated by OSHA.
• Must be on 24 hour call and work a varied schedule.
• Equivalency of education and experience permitted.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Class A CDL with tanker endorsement or obtain within three months.

Essential Functions

• Performs manual labor
• Operates light, medium and heavy vehicles, power tools, trucks, snow plows, salt and brine spreaders, grass cutting and other equipment

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

• Meets regular and punctual attendance standards and any special needs of the position as determined by management, including mandatory overtime and performing related work
• Spends prolonged periods of time sitting, standing, walking, carrying, stooping and climbing
• Lifts and carries items weighing up to 100 pounds in a team setting
• Spends prolonged periods of time exposed to the elements

Minimum Requirements

• High school diploma or the equivalent
• One year of garbage packer truck, haul truck, wood-chipper, water truck or other heavy equipment operation experience

Other Minimums

• Must submit to and pass pre-employment and random alcohol and drug tests as mandated by the Department of Transportation
• Must wear safety equipment as mandated by OSHA
• Must be on 24 hour call
• Must work a varied schedule

Equivalency

• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted

Special Requirements

• Must possess and maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker endorsement or obtain within three months of employment

• Pay Progression:
  • Step 1:$24.27/hour – 0-3 Months
  • Step 2:$25.26/hour - 3-6 Months
  • Step 3:$25.96/hour – 6+ Months
• Class A CDL with Tanker Endorsement:$1.15 per hour
