Job summary

The City of Hammond is seeking an Equipment Operator CDL to perform semi-skilled work operating a limited range of hauling, construction, and maintenance equipment for City roads, rights of way, and city property. This role reports to the Assistant Director of Streets.

Candidate must have a Louisiana Driver's License and the ability to obtain a Class A CDL within six months. High school diploma or GED and two years of related equipment experience are required. Equal Opportunity Employer.

• Operates equipment such as boom truck, street sweeper, street patching machine, dump truck, tractor and related equipment to maintain and repair right of ways and city property.
• Checks and fuels vehicles and performs light mechanical adjustments.
• Assists mechanic in performing repairs on assigned equipment.
• Distributes asphalt using specialized equipment, loads and unloads trucks.
• Performs various manual tasks involved in repairing roads and city properties.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Summary: Under immediate supervision performs semi-skilled work in operating a limited variety of hauling, construction, and maintenance equipment in the maintenance of City roads, right of ways, and all other city property.

• Operates any of the following types of equipment: boom truck, street sweeper, street patching machine, dump truck, tractor, and related equipment, used to maintain and repair right of ways and beautify City property.
• Checks and fuels vehicles and perform light mechanical adjustments.
• Assists mechanic in performing repairs on assigned equipment.
• May distribute asphalt using specialized equipment, load and unload trucks.
• Performs various manual tasks involved in repairing roads and all other city properties.
• Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.

Typical Qualifications

Acceptable Training and Experiences:

• High school diploma or GED and two (2) years' experience operating related equipment.

Certificates and/or Licenses:

Must possess and maintain a valid Louisiana Driver's License and must have the ability to obtain a Class (A) Commercial Driver's License within the first (6) months of employment.
