Job summary

The City of Hammond is seeking an Equipment Operator CDL to perform semi-skilled work operating a limited variety of hauling, construction, and maintenance equipment for city roads and properties. Reports to the Assistant Director of Streets.

Under immediate supervision, operate equipment such as boom trucks, street sweepers, dump trucks, tractors, and related gear; fuel vehicles, perform minor repairs, and assist mechanics as needed. Ensure safe, efficient work on all city properties.

Qualifications

• Ability to safely operate, maintain, and perform minor repairs on medium equipment.
• Ability to understand and carry out routine oral and written instructions.
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees under varying weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Operate equipment including boom truck, street sweeper, street patching machine, dump truck, tractor, and related equipment for road and property maintenance.
• Check and fuel vehicles and perform minor mechanical adjustments.
• Assist mechanic in repairs on assigned equipment.
• May distribute asphalt, load and unload trucks.
• Perform various manual tasks in repairing roads and city properties.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

• Checks and fuels vehicles and perform light mechanical adjustments.
• Assists mechanic in performing repairs on assigned equipment.
• May distribute asphalt using specialized equipment, load and unload trucks.
• Performs various manual tasks involved in repairing roads and all other city properties.
• Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.

  Acceptable Training and Experiences:
  
• High school diploma or GED and two (2) years' experience operating related equipment.

Certificates and/or Licenses:
Must possess and maintain a valid Louisiana Driver's License and must have the ability to obtain a Class (A) Commercial Driver's License within the first (6) months of employment.
