Job Description

General Objectives

Reporting to the Crew Supervisor, the Heavy Equipment Operator typically works a 5x4 rotating day and night schedule in an open-pit mining operation. The role involves the safe and efficient operation of heavy equipment, learning and interacting with the Modular Dispatch System, monitoring equipment, communicating needs and issues, and collaborating with other departments to ensure a safe and productive workplace.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

• Operate electric haul trucks and train on Dozers (track and rubber tire), Backhoe, Trackhoe, Scrapers, Graders, Drills (Pit Viper and DML), Loaders, and Shovels (hydraulic and electric).
• Work professionally with colleagues in all situations.
• Be physically capable of completing all job tasks.
• Minimize delays and keep equipment clean and hazard-free.
• Diagnose operating errors, determine necessary tools, and perform proper inspections.
• Complete company training on safe operation of haulage equipment and hazard recognition.
• Participate in simulator training and meet proficiency standards.
• Maintain attendance, punctuality, and adhere to company policies.
• Create and sustain a strong safety culture.
• Keep detailed shift records and perform housekeeping duties.
• Perform Field Level Risk Assessments and pre-operation inspections.
• Follow Standard Operating Procedures and perform other duties as required.

Required Skills

• Effective communication skills in English.
• Ability to lift at least 45 lbs regularly.
• Ability to work on uneven terrain and in all weather conditions.

Required Experience

• At least 2 years of heavy equipment operating experience in mining preferred.
• Comfortable operating equipment safely in all weather conditions.

Heavy equipment operators will start with haul trucks and progress to other equipment through training and evaluations.
