Job summary

SolPowerlines, LLC is seeking a skilled ground worker to assist linemen in overhead power distribution line construction, maintenance, and repair across outdoor sites in varying weather. The role requires readiness for long hours, on-call storm work, and strict safety standards.

You will help with bucket trucks and digger derricks under supervision, document switching logs, and coordinate with dispatch and system operators. CDL is required, and travel may be necessary.

Job description

  • Assist linemen in the construction, maintenance, and repair of overhead power distribution lines.
  • Perform sectionalizing and isolation for maintenance or emergency operations.
  • Conduct pre-job inspections and ensure all safety gear and equipment are in working condition.
  • Ability to operate a Digger Derrick truck to dig & set poles.
Safety and Compliance:
  • Adhere to all safety procedures, including OSHA standards and company policies.
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriately.
  • Participate in tailboard and safety briefings before jobs.
  • Support emergency response and storm restoration efforts.
Equipment and Tools:
  • Assist with the operation of bucket trucks, digger derricks, and other equipment under supervision.
  • Handle tools, materials, and supplies to support linemen during installations or repairs.
  • Maintain and inspect hand tools and crew equipment.
Communication and Documentation:
  • Communicate with line crews, dispatch, and system operators regarding switching orders and operational status.
  • Accurately document work performed, including switching logs and equipment status reports.
  • Outdoor fieldwork in varying weather and terrain conditions.
  • On-call duty, extended hours, and storm response may be required.
  • Regular exposure to energized electrical equipment and heights.
Working Conditions
  • Work is performed outside in all types of weather environments.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, climb, stoop, stand, and lift for long periods of time.
  • Substantial movements of the hands, wrists, and/or fingers.
  • Must be able to work with hands above head for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to walk, climb, and work from various heights.
  • Must be able to work in uneven and slippery conditions.
  • Must be able to have close visual acuity to perform job duties.
Additional skills, conduct, and requirements
  • Clean and maintain equipment as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license; CDL required
  • Must be able to pass drug, alcohol, and background checks.
  • Must have good hand eye coordination.
  • Must be able to repair tools and equipment as needed.
  • Able and willing to travel long distances on short notice.
  • Able and willing to work for extended periods in various locations.
  • Able and willing to work in all types of weather environments including inclement weather.
  • Able and willing to work overtime when required.
  • Subject to be on call for storm work.
  • Must be able to enter and exit vehicles numerous times per day.
  • Must be able to wear PPE.
  • Understanding of the utility industry and operations.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
