Job summary

Superior Paving Corp. in Virginia seeks an experienced Equipment Operator for paving crews. You will operate multiple machines to prepare and execute paving operations and support site safety.

The role requires hands-on mechanical skills, the ability to work long shifts, and cooperation with teammates. Local travel to job sites across Northern and Central Virginia is expected.

Qualifications

• 5 years of experience in paving or related heavy construction.
• Must be 18 years of age.
• Ability to operate machines in manual mode or electronic controls.
• Good eye-hand coordination.
• Ability to lift up to 75 lbs unassisted up to 5 times per day and regularly lift up to 25 lbs.
• Ability to read, follow and interpret safety documents, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals, plans and grade.
• Ability to work overtime, weekends, and nights as required.
• Valid Driver’s License with satisfactory driving record.
• Ability to speak, read and write English.
• ESCCC certification preferred.
• High School Diploma or equivalency preferred.

Responsibilities

• Move levers to operate and control equipment and computerized controls to ensure product meets quality standards.
• Set up, install, inspect equipment, and record findings; perform minor repairs.
• Monitor machine operation and ensure safe, efficient performance.
• Maintain equipment on-site (oil, grease, cleaning, etc.).
• Coordinate truck dumping and loading of trucks and transfer of materials.
• Fill equipment with paving materials and drive to/from job sites.
• Shovel and rake hot asphalt and provide traffic flagging as needed.
• Clear and prepare highway work zones and remove debris.
• Train others on equipment usage.
• Other duties as assigned.

Description

Operate a variety of construction and paving machines and equipment including; Milling Machine, Roller, Asphalt Paver, Motor Grade, and Loader to perform paving preparation and operations.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

• Move levers to operate and control equipment and computerized controls to ensure product meets Superior quality standards.
• Set up, install, inspect equipment, and record findings according to established standards. Make adjustments and minor repairs using hand tools.
• Monitor machine for proper operation while observing asphalt surface and other surroundings.
• Be conscientious of workers safety within the vicinity of the machine.
• Maintain equipment for optimal operation while it is on-site (oil, grease, clean, etc.)
• Coordinate truck dumping and/or loading of trucks and transfer of materials.
• Fill up equipment with paving materials.
• Drive equipment to and from the job site.
• Clean up of job site with or without equipment.
• Communicate recognized problems with tools, equipment, work areas and product as they arise.
• Train others on the use of equipment.
• Clearing and preparing highway work zones, rights of ways, end of pass and joints by removing litter, debris, rocks, existing building materials, concrete, mud and vegetation as needed.
• Shoveling and or raking hot asphalt and traffic flagging as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

• 5 years of experience in the paving industry or appropriate experience with Superior Paving.
• Must be 18 years of age
• Must be able to run a machine in manual mode or with electronic controls.
• Good eye-hand coordination
• Ability to pull up your own weight and sit in one position up to 12 hours per day
• Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs unassisted up to 5 times per day and regularly lift up to 25 lbs.
• Ability to work as a member of a team.
• Ability to read, follow and interpret safety documents, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals, plans and grade.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• A good understanding of Superior Paving, state, local, private and federal policies and procedures, to ensure safe operation of the machines and equipment being used.
• Ability to work overtime, weekends, and nights as required.
• Valid Driver’s License with satisfactory driving record.
• Ability to speak, read and write English.
• ESCCC certification preferred.
• Mechanical knowledge of designing, using, and maintaining machines and tools preferred.
• High School Diploma or equivalency preferred.
