Job Description: Equipment Operator
Safely operate and/or have the ability to operate various equipment including forklift, bobcat, backhoe, track hoe, compactor, and steer equipment to bale, load, and move waste material.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate necessary equipment to bale and load waste material into trailers.
- Perform daily inspections and maintenance checks of equipment.
- Grease, lubricate, and check/add fluids to equipment daily.
- Steer, guide, and operate the equipment at the assigned site, using steering wheels, shifters, levers, buttons, and pedals.
- Substitute for other operators as needed or in their absence.
- Clean trash from tracks of heavy equipment regularly to ensure proper functioning.
- Use two-way radios to communicate with team members regarding work activities, requirements, and priorities.
- Conform to all applicable laws, regulations, ordinances, and company policies.
- Maintain the appearance of grounds and facilities.
- Attend safety and branch meetings.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED preferred but not required.
- Completion of forklift certification.
- Ability to obtain Transfer Station/Landfill Operations Certification if necessary.
- Experience operating excavator, forklift/bobcat, front-loader, baler, backhoe, track hoe, bulldozer, compactor, and steer equipment; safety shoes and eye protection required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
- Apply common sense to solve problems involving multiple variables.
- Perform basic math functions and understand equipment gauges.
- Proficient in reading, speaking, understanding, and writing English.
- Frequently lift/push/pull up to 25 pounds, occasionally up to 50 pounds.
Physical and Mental Demands:
- Ability to stand, sit, walk, use hands, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, climb, and balance.
- Visual requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception, with focus adjustment.
- Regularly lift/push/pull up to 25 pounds, occasionally up to 50 pounds.
Working Conditions:
- Exposure to loud noise, humidity, weather conditions, moving parts, vibration, chemicals, fumes, and airborne particles.
- Work environment is typically moderate to loud, outdoors, often inside heavy equipment cabs, exposed to all weather conditions except lightning storms.
- Occasional work at heights in high precarious places.
