Equipment Operator

Location: Zolfo Springs, Florida

Position Summary

Safely operate excavators and bulldozers, load trucks, and perform grading and finishing work to grade. Operate and maintain heavy, motorized earth-moving equipment efficiently and safely.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in a drug-free workplace with a random drug testing program.
  • Promote a safety culture focused on Incident and Injury Free Performance.
  • Operate heavy earth-moving equipment, including dozers, scrapers, loaders, excavators, and compactors.
  • Perform excavation, grading, and compaction of land surfaces.
  • Excavate soil and load material into trucks for transport and disposal or stockpiling.
  • Coordinate tasks using hand-held radios.
  • Follow safety plans, rules, maintenance instructions, SDS, warning tags, traffic signs, and procedures.
  • Work effectively in challenging conditions, independently or as part of a team.
  • Work extended hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
  • Perform additional tasks and projects as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience requirements based on operator level:
    • Operator 1: 2+ years of heavy equipment operation/maintenance.
    • Operator 2: 5+ years of heavy equipment operation/maintenance.
    • Operator 3: 10+ years of heavy equipment operation/maintenance.

Qualifications

  • Safety training such as 40-Hour HAZWOPER, Competent Person Safety, 8-Hour Supervisory, OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety, First Aid, and CPR is preferred but not mandatory; training will be provided as needed.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

This role involves lifting up to 50 pounds, extended standing or walking on site, climbing equipment, and working in confined spaces or at heights. Conditions may include exposure to machinery, chemicals, dust, fumes, noise, and weather extremes. PPE such as eyewear, gloves, hard hats, and steel-toed boots is required. Effective communication and safety adherence are essential.
