Position Summary
Operate one or several types of power construction equipment to excavate, move, and/or grade material.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

1. Operate a variety of vehicles and large heavy equipment while performing maintenance and repairs on roads and rights-of-way, including loading, hauling, and dumping on various surfaces.
2. Load gravel, dirt, and sand; smooth and grade roads; spread rock and gravel.
3. Trench and construct ditches for installation of culverts, water pipes, and sewer pipes; remove silt and debris.
4. Check and maintain equipment fluid levels and lubrication.
5. Instruct and train employees in safe operation of construction equipment and tools, and in job techniques and skills (if asked).
6. Inspect equipment, structures, or materials to identify errors, problems, or defects.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred, with relevant experience.
• Knowledge and skills necessary for the position.
• Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions; effective communication with management.
• Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and layout tools safely and efficiently.

Requirements:

• Ability to move about a construction/industrial site, including standing, walking, sitting, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
• Work outdoors in changing weather conditions.
• Work irregular hours, including weekends, overtime, and holidays.
• Ability to climb ladders, mechanical platforms, manlifts, scaffolds (may exceed 200 feet), and maintain balance.
• Work in confined, cluttered, and uneven spaces.
• Complete tasks in noisy and dusty environments.
• Move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Possess required tools.
• Observe safety and project rules; perform other duties as assigned.
• Pass pre-access drug and alcohol tests and medical fitness assessments.
