Job summary

The Municipality of Anchorage is seeking a skilled equipment technician for the Solid Waste Services department. The role requires operating and maintaining a variety of vehicles and equipment, including light maintenance, oil changes, and tire work, in a busy municipal shop environment.

Applicants must hold a valid Alaska CDL with tanker and hazmat endorsements, pass a drug screen, and successfully clear a background check. On-site work in Anchorage with a union-represented workforce.

Job Information

**Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.**

This position is represented by the International Union of Operating Engineers - Local 302 and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the International Union of Operating Engineers - Local 302.**

DEPARTMENT: Solid Waste Services (SWS)

HOURS OF WORK: Four 10s, days TBD**

LOCATION: ARL - 15500 E. Eagle River Loop Rd, Eagle River

**Employees who are hired or rehired to any position shall be placed at the entrance pay step, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps.**

**Example of Duties**

Services and maintains a variety of vehicles and equipment such as performing oil changes, fluid level checks, lubrication of moving parts, and checking batteries. Assists mechanics in the repair and maintenance of a variety of gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles and other pieces of equipment. Cleans and maintains shop work areas including removal of snow, and debris. Properly disposes of discarded oil and other servicing related materials. Dismounts, repairs, performs mounting, balancing and removing/replacing of tires at various locations. Maintains a harmonious work environment. Assists in shop cleanup, moving vehicles to/from the shop. Utilizes the equipment maintenance management software to document work performed. Must provide own standard tools of the trade. Performs other duties assigned.

**Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences**

• A valid State of Alaska Class A Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with tanker and Hazmat endorsement, no airbrake or transmission restrictions, and satisfactory driving record at time of hire. Applicants with a restriction of "L-Vehicles Without Air Brake Systems Only" and E-Automatic Transmission Vehicles Only are not eligible.
• A satisfactory drug screening at time of hire.
• Satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history at time of hire.
