Job summary

Sutter County Department of General Services is seeking an Equipment Mechanic II to join their team. Under direction, the incumbent inspects and diagnoses mechanical and electrical failures for automobiles, light trucks, and equipment; performs repairs and overhauls as necessary.

The County provides this position a tool allowance of $75 monthly, as well as tool theft insurance. An eligible list may be used for future openings for up to six months.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience as a journey level automotive mechanic with some formal training in on-board computer systems, or equivalent knowledge and experience.

Responsibilities

• Inspects automotive equipment to determine corrective action; performs repairs on driveability and computer-controlled issues.
• Uses diagnostic tools and smog equipment; performs smog inspections and related certifications.
• Repairs engines, transmissions, brakes, and related components; services vehicles including oil changes and safety inspections.
• Operates scan tools, interprets trouble codes, and repairs electrical problems.
• Orders and sources parts; maintains a clean, safe workspace; fabricates parts as needed.
• May perform welding and emergency/road calls as required.
