The County provides this position a tool allowance of $75 monthly, as well as tool theft insurance. An eligible list may be used for future openings for up to six months.

Under direction, inspects and diagnoses mechanical and electrical failures for automobiles, light trucks, and equipment; performs repairs and overhauls as necessary.
The County provides this position a tool allowance of $75 monthly, as well as tool theft insurance.
The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill any future opening(s), including Part-Time and Extra Help, in this class for up to six months.
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other related duties may be required and assigned.
EXAMPLES OF MARGINAL DUTIES;
Knowledge of:
Theory and operation of internal combustion engines; methods of repair of fuel, cooling, ignition, air conditioning systems, electrical, and on-board computer systems and automatic and standard transmissions; automotive maintenance procedures.
Ability to: Diagnose mechanical work required to make necessary repairs; follow oral and written instructions; maintain established schedules and deadlines.
Education and Experience: Two years of experience as a journey level automotive mechanic with some formal training in on-board computer systems, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Essential Duties require the following physical skills and work requirements: Requires the ability to exert a considerable amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects and to stoop, crouch, climb and lift in performance of manual labor; perceive color, odor, texture and sound; operate a variety of tools, equipment and vehicles used in performance of daily tasks; ability to work around electrical currents and/or hazardous materials in a safe manner; may be subject to uncomfortable working conditions including exposure to dust, noise, heat or cold.
Other Requirements: Position holder must supply the tools necessary to perform the duties and responsibilities assigned to the position.
Disaster Service Workers: All Sutter County employees are designated as Disaster Service Workers during a proclaimed emergency and may be required to perform certain emergency services at the direction of the department and/or County.
License or Certificate: This classification may require a valid California driver’s license. Must maintain a driving record that will meet commercial insurance requirements.
