Starting pay is $28.99 an hour per the 1386A Working Agreement. After 6 months of successful employment, the pay rate increases to $30.44 an hour per the same agreement. ASE Certificate holders earn an additional $0.50/hour. The purpose of this position is to maintain all public works light to heavy tools and equipment in a reliable and safe condition to be available for service according to approved standards. Responsibilities include completing work orders, requesting parts, reviewing PM checklists, utilizing proper lift techniques, performing tire rotations, grease inspections, and other equipment maintenance tasks. This includes performing routine maintenance, maintaining tools and equipment cost-effectively, recording maintenance activities, and recommending improvements to reduce costs. Additionally, learning proper operating and maintenance procedures for all City vehicles and equipment is essential.

Work is performed in an office, shop, and field locations, including in, around, under, and on top of various equipment, in all weather conditions.
Applicants must have graduated from high school or obtained a GED, with at least one year of experience maintaining and repairing light and heavy equipment. A valid Class B commercial driver’s license with a tanker endorsement is required within one year, and the applicant must have no offenses restricting insurance coverage. A State Inspection license is also required within one year. Applicants must supply their own tools; an annual tool reimbursement is available after probation. Additional certifications or licenses may be required, with ASE certification earning an extra $0.50/hour. Post-secondary training in automotive or equipment mechanic technology is a plus.
