Job Purpose

This position is responsible for the management and oversight of all equipment operations within the athletics department in accordance with NCAA, Pac 12, and Gonzaga rules, regulations, policies and procedures. The duties of the position include, but are not limited to: forecasting of equipment needs, the procurement, allocation and maintenance of equipment and apparel, budget compliance and business office interaction; maintain the inventory and accountability of all athletic equipment; oversee daily laundry services; organization and upkeep of equipment room; assist with organization and upkeep of locker rooms; hire and training of all student staff.

Essential Functions
  • 40% - Administrative Duties
    • Primary liaison with NIKE/BSN representatives, responsible for ordering and relationship management.
    • Responsible for the purchase of athletic equipment for all teams; including forecasting, ordering equipment and supplies, and follow-up with vendors and sales representatives on delivery dates, order changes, returns, and other issues that pertain to a particular order.
    • Responsible for the organization and upkeep of equipment and locker rooms; including, keeping equipment and locker rooms neat and orderly, and securing uniforms and other equipment at all times.
    • Serve as accounts payable for department as it pertains to Athletic Equipment purchases.
    • In conjunction with the business office, monitor the actual purchase price of equipment as compared to the sport's budget; and communicate with coaches when concerns arise with budget limitations.
    • Check-in equipment delivered to the equipment room, including verifying contents of packages, and recording as received in equipment management system.
    • Responsible for managing the departments equipment inventory and management software Equipcheck, keeping accurate inventory records; including, input of new equipment information, as well as maintaining athletes, coaches and staff member's sizes for equipment.
    • Keep athletes, coaches, and staff members informed of policies regarding issuing equipment; Ensure all athletes are in compliance and eligible to receive equipment before issuing gear.
    • Oversee and ensure the proper storage of all athletic equipment and uniforms.
    • Protect life expectancy of all equipment by ensuring manufacturer guidelines are being followed including communicating with athletes and coaches on the quality and life expectancy of equipment.
    • Return faulty equipment and/or clothing to vendor when necessary; track to ensure replacements or credits are received.
    • Performs other duties as assigned in support of Gonzaga's mission.
    • Collaborate with the Director of Trademark and Licensing to ensure brand standards are being met.
  • 40% - Equipment Room Operations
    • Oversee all day-to-day operations of the equipment unit including but not limited to: Familiarity with all types of equipment utilized by a major athletic program and recommendations on comparative quality items.
    • Establish the specifications for equipment required by coaches. Evaluate quotes as they relate to cost and quality as well as service and delivery schedules.
    • Communicate and assist coaches in developing their requests for equipment and initiate all orders as they pertain to teams' athletic supplies.
    • Arrange for the security of equipment room during business and non-business hours.
    • Daily management of the equipment inventory system Equipcheck for all sports, monitoring equipment issuance of all equipment to student-athletes and staff.
    • Organize and supervise laundry services and sanitation systems for all sports as well as visiting team when requested.
    • Develop expertise with all safety equipment and stay current on all safety trends as they relate to athletic equipment.
    • Organize and manage all team and individual awards orders, maintaining accurate records of all activity.
    • Replace and/or mend all clothing when worn or torn.
    • Prepare each athlete and coach with proper equipment and apparel needs for each practice and competition.
    • Communicate with coaches to know which student-athletes are participating in competitions, for both home and away contests.
  • 15% - Supervision
    • Supervise student employees and student managers; including hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating those who perform specified duties in the equipment room and provide assistance during team practices and competitions.
    • Oversee student managers on a daily basis to ensure they are performing duties in a satisfying manner.
    • Ensure student managers follow all policies and procedures set forth by the equipment room, coaches, and athletic department.
  • 5% - NCAA Compliance
    • Employees of Gonzaga University's Athletic Department must comply with all NCAA rules and regulations and acknowledge this compliance as part of an evaluation process.
    • Additional Duties as Assigned by the Department

In lieu of the educational qualifications, candidates may qualify with equivalent professional experience at a ratio of one year of experience for each year of required education.

Certifications And/or Licensures

Valid driver's license and good driving record.

  • Work experience in higher education
  • Work experience in an intercollegiate athletic department
  • Demonstrated successful supervisory experience

The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to offer for this position: $28.85

Pay Range

  • Minimum Salary (Annualized 12 months and 40 hours/week): 59540
  • Midpoint Salary (Annualized 12 months and 40 hours/week): 74425
  • Maximum Salary (Annualized 12 months and 40 hours/week): 89309
  • Minimum Salary (Non-Exempt): 28.63
  • Midpoint Salary (Non-Exempt): 35.78
  • Maximum Salary (Non-Exempt): 42.93
