Job summary

Toyota Motor Credit Corporation is seeking an Equipment and Process Engineer for the Body Weld Pilot Department in the United States. You will lead equipment and process development for new model projects, supporting pilot teams to ensure launch KPIs for safety, quality, productivity and cost.

Reporting to the Pilot Engineering and Maintenance Manager, you will coordinate with internal teams and vendors to drive design reviews, budget Justification, and handovers to Production while facilitating

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Applied Engineering.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment (co-op/intern or fulltime).
  • Experience in equipment specifications, design, install and validation.
  • Strong MS Office experience (Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project).
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with cross-functional teams.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to ~25%.
  • Valid driving license with acceptable motor vehicle record.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate body design of new models to improve safety, quality and manufacturability while meeting KPIs.
  • Evaluate equipment design specs to meet productivity and repeatable body accuracy.
  • Communicate with Toyota departments, vendors, and contractors; provide status updates.
  • Manage projects with Production, Maintenance, Internal Logistics, PE/SE, and QE groups.
  • Coordinate budget justification, scheduling, installation and handover to Production.
  • Facilitate problem solving on process and equipment during planning/setup/trials.
  • Support Production and implement FSR studies and ECIs; resolve field issues.

Who we are looking for

Toyota’sBody Weld Pilot Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivatedEquipment and Process Engineer.

The primary responsibility of this role is to lead equipment and process development for new model projects through structure evaluation and support of pilot teams.

Reporting to the Pilot Engineering and Maintenance Manager, the person in this role will support the Body Weld Pilot Department's objective to prepare the TMMI Weld Production shops to be successful in achieving launch KPIs for safety, quality, productivity and cost during model changes and new model implementation through equipment and processing development.

What you’ll be doing
  • Evaluating body design of new models with consideration of reducing safety risk to TMs, improving internal shop quality, manufacturability, and reducing impact to downstream shops, while meeting internal and external KPIs.
  • Evaluate equipment design specifications for new models to meet human design standards, deliver repeatable body accuracy, and meet productivity requirements.
  • Communicate with multiple internal and external departments within Toyota, as well as machine vendors and contractors. This includes giving regular updates to Manager and above for project status.
  • Manage projects working with Production, Maintenance, Internal Logistics, PE & SE, and QE Groups.
  • Responsible for coordinating all aspects of projects including budget justification, Ringi development, scheduling, installation and confirmation and final handover to Production.
  • Facilitate problem solving activities on process & equipment issues during planning/set-up/trial phases. Support of Production as needed.
  • Responsible for FSR Study & ECI implementation, as well as resolving field issues with Countermeasure activity.
What you bring
  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Applied Engineering.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment (either through co-op/intern or fulltime position)
  • Experience in equipment specifications, design, install and validation.
  • Basic understanding of cross-functional collaboration between various groups in Body Weld.
  • Intermediate knowledge in MS Office applications (Excel for analysis and PowerPoint for reporting and presentations and MS Project for schedules)
  • Strong analytical, critical, logical thinking skills with experience collaborating with teams, and ability to manage multiple projects and tasks, and prioritize work.
  • Knowledge of body accuracy & part design impact to Assembly & Paint Process.
  • This position requires weekend work, holiday shutdown work, and confirmation support to allow for smooth restart of production.
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically & internationally up to 25%
  • This position requires driving. A motor vehicle record that’s acceptable by company standards is required for this position.
Added bonus if you have
  • Familiarity with C3, Catia, CAD, XVL software.
  • Experience with the equipment Buyoff & Kanban System.
  • Demonstrated experience with new technology such as: SB roller hemming, aluminum spot welding, self-piercing rivets, vision systems, and body bond application.
  • Skilled maintenance experience
  • New model pre-production experience is a plus.
  • Experience reviewing body design and providing feedback to design.
  • Understanding of body accuracy data, as well as steps to achieve.
  • TBP (Toyota Business Process) completion up to panel review.
