Job summary

Toyota Manufacturing is seeking a Paint Engineer to positively impact safety, quality, productivity, and cost KPIs through problem solving and process improvements. You will support the Paint department's objective to ensure safe, high-quality vehicle builds for Toyota and customers.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you’ll work with production and maintenance to drive process enhancements, oversee change points, and lead multiple projects.

Qualifications

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.
  • Experience with problem solving in manufacturing.
  • Production/engineering experience in manufacturing environment; co-op/intern acceptable.
  • Cost justification or budget development experience helpful.
  • Strong communication across levels and teams.
  • Project management skills with milestone tracking and status reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Apply engineering principles to resolve manufacturing operational issues.
  • Analyze data to influence vehicle quality decisions.
  • Provide technical support to Production and Maintenance for process improvements.
  • Oversee management of change points for processes/materials.
  • Lead multiple projects with timely completion aligned to goals.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams with production, safety, maintenance, and quality.

Who we’re looking for

Toyota’s Paint Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Paint Engineer.


The primary responsibility of this role is to positively impact safety, quality, productivity, and cost KPI’s through problem solving and process improvements.


Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the person in this role will support the Paint department's objective to ensure TMMI safely builds the highest quality vehicles for our TMs and customers.

What you’ll be doing
  • Apply engineering principles to resolve manufacturing operational issues.
  • Quickly gather and analyze detailed data to make decisions impacting vehicle quality.
  • Provide technical support to Production and Maintenance for process improvement initiatives.
  • Oversee the management of process/material change points.
  • Manage and lead multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely completion and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Participate in and/or lead cross-functional teams including production, safety, maintenance, and quality.
What you bring
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Applied Engineering
  • Experience in a role utilizing problem solving skills
  • Previous experience in a production or manufacturing environment in an engineering or technical role, including co-op or internship experience
  • Cost justification experience (ringi and/or budget development)
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with all levels of internal and external groups
  • Project management experience (to include developing, leading, prioritizing work, meeting milestones, gaining consensus, and reporting out status of projects).
  • Ability to support 24-hour production operations, production Saturdays, and weekends as needed
Added bonus if you have
  • Experience with industrial automotive painting operations
  • Experience within Toyota completing a project (concept, ringi, PO, Kanban/installation, trials, start-up & reflection- PDCA)
  • Previous Toyota Co-Op experience OR Toyota technical experience
  • Experience with TPS (Toyota Production System) or Lean Six Sigma systems
