Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED (or equivalent experience in horse care).
  • Valid Virginia Driver's License; clean driving record.
  • Interest in history and public programming/engagement.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in equine breeding; AI focus.
  • Experience with horses in professional/structured settings.
  • Knowledge of horse care, feeding, grooming, and health monitoring.
  • Ability to handle large horses safely and confidently.
  • Willingness to perform physical labor in varied weather.
  • Team-oriented with good communication and a positive attitude.
  • Must be at least 21 years old; 5-year MVR requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate the Rare Breeds equine program and partnerships.
  • Monitor breeding stock health; oversee veterinary visits and records.
  • Administer basic first aid, medications, and treatments.
  • Build and maintain community, local, national, and international partnerships.
  • Grow equine programming and educational resources; coordinate volunteers and internships.
  • Coordinate training and cross-training with internal staff; maintain records.
