Job summary

Colonial Williamsburg Foundation seeks a non-exempt Livestock Stable Supervisor to oversee daily care, welfare, and health monitoring of the livestock in our historic program. You will coordinate breeding, veterinary care, and recordkeeping while leading public programming and education around rare breeds.

You will also train apprentices and volunteers, ensure safety compliance, and work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays to support interpretive and visitor engagement activities.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; 5+ years livestock care experience.
  • Experience with handling, safety, and welfare of livestock.
  • Customer service or public-facing experience with guests or participants.
  • Ability to present professionally and engage visitors.
  • Previous leadership roles and ability to supervise staff or volunteers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily livestock care including feeding, health monitoring, and welfare oversight.
  • Coordinate breeding, veterinary care, recordkeeping, and herd management.
  • Lead emergency responses related to livestock health or facility issues.
  • Support strategic planning for livestock acquisitions and program development.
  • Oversee livestock interpretation and public programming for guest experiences.
  • Develop talks, workshops, tours, and education on rare breeds and 18th-century husbandry.
  • Train and lead apprentices, interns, and volunteers.
  • Ensure safety compliance and participate in internal and external trainings.
