Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, the historic living museum in Williamsburg, VA, is seeking a dedicated Horse Care & Stable Operations Associate. You will oversee daily equine care, stall maintenance, turnout, grooming, and safety procedures within a world-renowned living history site.

Responsibilites include supporting carriage operations, training activities, and guest-facing interpretive programming while maintaining high standards of animal welfare and visitor safety.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; equivalent horse-care experience may be accepted.
  • Experience with horses, including care, handling, and safety practices.
  • Customer service or public-facing experience interacting professionally with guests.
  • Ability to represent the organization professionally and create welcoming experiences for visitors.
  • Prior leadership experience with ability to supervise and mentor team members.

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily care and management of all horses: feeding, turnout, grooming, and stall maintenance.
  • Coordinate carriage operations, drive carriages, and prepare horses for rides.
  • Monitor health, welfare, and records of equines; communicate concerns to the Equine Manager.
  • Provide guest-facing interpretation and coaching to staff during visitor interactions.
  • Ensure safety, protocol compliance, and proper use of equipment across operations.
