Job summary

University of California - Davis is seeking a Large Animal Equine Medicine and Specialty Service Technician to support clinicians in exams, treatments and student instruction. You will prepare exams, obtain histories, and coordinate with other service staff while ensuring proper infection control and clean, stocked rooms.

The role offers on-site work at the UC Davis VMTH with benefits, shift differentials, and opportunities for CE and RVT support.

Qualifications

• Must obtain VACSP within 3 months of hire.
• Experience monitoring patient vital signs and administering PO, IV, SQ & IM medications.
• Extensive experience handling, restraining and working with horses (sick, healthy, sedated and fractious).
• Experience with equine medications and dose calculations.
• Knowledge of equine anatomy, behavior and physiology to identify abnormal signs.
• Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to solve problems in diverse, potentially challenging situations.

Responsibilities

• 70% - Technical support to LA Equine Medicine and Specialty Services.
• 20% - Nursing and technical duties for other Large Animal Services.
• 10% - Infectious disease control and sanitation.
