Job summary

The Omni Homestead Resort & Spa in Virginia is seeking a stable hand to maintain the stables, care for horses, and assist with guest trail rides. Responsibilities include feeding, grooming, stall cleaning, and ensuring safety for guests and employees.

Responsibilities also cover equipment handling, daily manure removal, and keeping the stables clean and organized. Must be able to lift 40+ pounds, work outdoors in all weather, and be 21 or older.

Qualifications

• Must be able to work outdoors in various weather extremes.
• Must be able to lift over 40 pounds.
• Must be able to stand up to 60 minutes per hour worked.
• Must be able to walk, bend/stoop, reach overhead, and perform physical tasks.
• Must be 21 years or older.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate commitment to eliminating or reducing the risk of injury to guests and associates; know action to take in emergencies.
• Know and share information about the resort and activities; communicate daily events and hours to guests and associates.
• Feed horses according to feeding instructions and check water and feed supplies.
• Groom horses by washing, brushing, trimming and currying their coat to improve appearance.
• Tack and untack horses as needed.
• Inspect horses for disease, illness, and injury while handling and grooming.
• Clean horse stalls daily and replenish with fresh sawdust.
• Clean water buckets per schedule.
• Guide guests on trail rides in a safe manner.
• Provide hand-led rides for children under 4 feet 6 inches tall.
• Maintain stables appearance; keep floors clean and area tidy.
• Remove manure from pits daily.
• Keep tools and areas organized.
• Inform manager when supplies are low (sawdust, hay, etc).
• Assist with mounting guests on horses; ensure stable security at end of day.
