Job summary

Allegan County is seeking dedicated, energetic people to join our team. The position reviews the accuracy of legal descriptions, enters records into the county’s assessing software, and supports equalization and related departments.

Starting wage is $24.26 per hour, full-time, with a robust benefits plan. Responsibilities include analyzing deeds, validating sales, maintaining records, and assisting with annual reports.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required; MCAT certification within 24 months of hire is expected.
• Minimum of 1 year of customer service and clerical office experience.
• Three years of experience reading and understanding legal property descriptions on deeds or surveys.
• Familiarity with Graphic Information Systems (GIS) and assessing preferred.
• Ability to analyze deeds, assess validity of legal descriptions and use assessing software.

Responsibilities

• Analyzes documents recorded at the Register of Deeds daily and determines validity of legal descriptions.
• Analyzes sale type, confirms property title validity, and enters data into assessing software.
• Enter PTA and Real Property Statements into the department’s system and file records.
• Distribute RPS forms to appropriate equalization staff and communicate with assessors.
• Prepare and publish annual equalization data and assist with Board of Review materials.
• Assist with payroll, invoicing, and supply ordering; serve as receptionist for the County Services Building.
