Job summary

Travelers in Hartford, CT is seeking an experienced legal professional to join the Bond & Specialty Insurance (BSI) Claim Counsel team. The role involves providing legal analysis, claims handling, and strategic advice to underwriting colleagues and claim teams.

You will navigate complex claims, oversee outside counsel, and participate in mediations and settlements while ensuring regulatory compliance and maintaining professional licenses.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree and Juris Doctorate with active license.
• Two years of relevant legal experience.
• Ability to negotiate terms within designated authority.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Analyze, investigate, and resolve BSI claims with moderate supervision.
• Prepare reports reflecting loss development, exposure, reserves and strategies.
• Manage outside counsel using litigation plans and budgets.
• Communicate significant claim exposures to underwriting.
• Develop ability to identify recovery opportunities with Recovery Management.
• Attend mediations, conferences, visits, trials and depositions.
