The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has a career opportunity within the Public Health and Safety Division in Helena.
This position oversees the operation, quality, and performance of two core public health surveillance systems to ensure timely, accurate, and actionable data that supports effective prevention and control activities. This position provides epidemiologic stewardship of the state’s wastewater surveillance and syndromic surveillance programs, ensuring each system functions efficiently and reliably. Responsibilities include partner onboarding, system maintenance, high-quality data management, surveillance analysis, and actionable data reporting that collectively strengthen early detection and situational awareness for infectious diseases and other public health threats in Montana.

Qualifications for this Career Opportunity
Skill in programming in Statistical Analysis System (SAS) or R statistical software.
Ability to manipulate, clean, and analyze large, complex environmental and clinical datasets.
Excellent written and oral communication skills for a variety of audiences.
Skill in writing technical reports or grants.
Master’s degree in epidemiology, statistics, informatics, data science, or a closely related degree.
Three years of job-related experience in epidemiology.
Experience in managing electronic data exchange is preferred.
Proficiency with data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms.
Other combinations of related education and experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

This position may be eligible for partial teleworkwithin the state of Montana.Specific conditions will be provided by the supervisor and must adhere to state policy.
