Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a skilled health information coder to review Epic outpatient visits, assign ICD-10-CM and CPT/HCPCS codes, and ensure documentation supports accurate billing. You will apply medical necessity requirements, stay current with coding guidelines, participate in audits, and collaborate with physicians and revenue cycle teams to resolve coding questions.

Applicants should hold a CCS and a bachelor’s in HIM or related field, with knowledge of LCDs, NCDs, and payer policies;

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, Finance, Business Administration, or related field or equivalent experience
• 1+ years of hospital coding or related revenue cycle experience
• CCS certification within six months of hire
• Knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT/HCPCS coding systems
• Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, disease processes, and medical terminology
• Knowledge of outpatient hospital coding guidelines and reimbursement principles
• Knowledge of LCDs, NCDs, and payer policies
• Ability to review and abstract information from medical records and identify documentation deficiencies
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills with coding quality and productivity
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Proficiency with Epic or similar EHR systems
• Preferred CPC, CHDA, RHIA/RHIT certifications
• Final candidate must disclose certain misconduct decisions/appeals in last seven years
• UC employees subject to personnel file review

Responsibilities

• Review Epic Simple Visit Coding outpatient encounters and supporting clinical documentation
• Assign ICD-10-CM and CPT/HCPCS codes per guidelines and payer requirements
• Ensure coded data accurately reflects services rendered and supports compliant billing
• Apply medical necessity requirements, LCDs, NCDs, payer policies during code assignment
• Identify documentation deficiencies and follow query procedures
• Participate in coding audits and quality reviews
• Assist with routine coding edits and claim-related coding issues
• Communicate with physicians, clinical staff, operational departments, and revenue cycle teams to resolve questions
• Maintain knowledge of coding regulations, reimbursement requirements, and payer policies
• Participate in continuing education, departmental training, and Epic workflow testing and validation
