The Role

Your Mission

As the Epic Cogito Business Intelligence Developer Analyst, you will serve as a key contributor to our mission of delivering operational excellence across clinical and financial systems. In this role, you will report to the Cogito Application Manager and play a key part in designing, developing, and maintaining enterprise analytics solutions using Epic’s Cogito reporting suite.

Additional Responsibilities

• Collaborate with BI developers, Cogito developers, analytics business analysts, clinical informatics, application teams, and customers to gather, analyze, and document reporting requirements using Epic's Cogito suite.
• Design, code, test, and maintain reporting and analytics objects, including extracts, utilizing industry best practices.
• Provide production support and respond to help desk tickets related to the BI development toolset and Epic Cogito suite.
• Serve as ITS support for infrastructure and applications, including implementation of new services and applications.
• Provide technical guidance to cross‑functional BI stakeholders.
• Perform design and code reviews of developed solutions for quality assurance.
• Follow ITS Analytics report build standards and change control processes, focusing on enterprise build and long‑term system maintenance.
• Design and develop metrics, reports, and analyses of intermediate to advanced complexity to drive key business decisions.
• Collaborate with team members to deliver BI solutions proficiently and timely, consistent with design estimates.
• Test solutions developed prior to external reviews or testing.
• Coordinate with Business Analysts, Data Architects, Structured Query Language (SQL) Administrators, BI Administrators, and others to understand and document technical requirements, capabilities, and limitations.
• Prioritize tasks with guidance from the manager, lead, supervisor, or project manager.
• Research questions and issues involving production reporting solutions.
• Coordinate projects without direct supervisory authority.
• Work within the constraints of multiple technical environments.

Who You Are & What You’ll Bring

• Demonstrated experience independently working with Clarity and Caboodle schemas.
• Minimum of two years of experience in a healthcare setting supporting report requests and using Epic’s Cogito enterprise intelligence suite and UserWeb.
• Minimum of two years of experience with SQL writing complex, highly optimized queries across large volumes of data, query performance tuning, and stored procedures.
• Demonstrated experience using Epic’s Reporting Workbench extract framework and Batch Scheduler.
• Experience in at least one Epic implementation preferred.
• Demonstrated experience working through the complete report development lifecycle for small to medium scale projects.
• Strong understanding of BI reporting best practices.
• Ability to learn many organizational structures and cultures while fostering collaboration.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

Proven Track Record

• Reporting lifecycle development including requirements gathering, tracking/updating builds in Jira, and communication with requesters.
• Supporting upgrades, special updates, completing Epic Nova Notes, utilizing Sherlocks, and checklists as appropriate.

Education/Certifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Health Information Systems, Information Technology, or related field or equivalent combination of education/experience.
• Current and active Epic certifications required in Cogito, Caboodle Data Model, Clarity Data Model, Clinical and/or Revenue Data Model.

Technical Savvy

Proven experience in leveraging knowledge of Epic Foundation and Epic applications to optimize workflows and improve patient care.

Communication

An ability to translate "tech‑speak" into helpful, clear solutions for non‑technical users.

Travel Requirements

Up to 20% travel is required, primarily for go‑live support to hospitals within the Central New York region.

Physical Readiness

Capability for sedentary work, including sitting for long periods and occasionally exerting up to ten pounds of force.
