Job summary

UAB Medicine in Birmingham, AL seeks an Epic application leader to guide strategy, innovation, and cross‑functional support of Epic. You will analyze operational needs, set requirements and standards, and collaborate with teams to implement optimal configurations and processes.

The role emphasizes data management, project roadmaps, and maintaining quality and patient safety as part of enterprise priorities. A Bachelor’s in IT and Epic certification are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in IT or related field required; experience may substitute for education.
  • Epic Clin Doc certification preferred or obtained within 12 weeks of training.

Responsibilities

  • Lead strategy, innovation, and collaborative support of Epic within HSIS.
  • Analyze operational needs to establish requirements and standards.
  • Guide system configurations and process impacts across teams.
  • Develop roadmaps and timelines for major Epic projects.
  • Serve as a technical expert in data management and system maintenance.
  • Ensure quality and patient safety alignment with enterprise priorities.
  • Engage stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions.

Job Description

To employ broad knowledge to guide application team members on strategy, innovation, and collaborative support of Epic. To lead efforts to analyze operational needs, utilizing industry guidelines and best practices, to establish requirements and technical standards to achieve enterprise goals. To serve within organizational teams and provides insight on technology configurations as well as process impacts.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
  • Creates frameworks for planning, designing and documentation of system functionality and changes.
  • Sets key standards and best practices to ensure that work quality meets customer needs.
  • Fosters a collaborative approach for system changes and issues resolution by bringing together all stakeholders.
  • Works to mitigate systemic risk through build processes, system analysis and monitoring of system performance.
  • Assists with creation of roadmaps for system functionality and timelines for major projects.
  • Leads projects across functional teams and business leaders to determine the most appropriate technical strategy.
  • Serves as a technical expert within the organization on system development and maintenance, data management and system support.
  • Maintains professional accountability to support quality and patient safety efforts and alignment with enterprise strategic priorities.
  • Builds and maintains partnerships within the organization. Engages stakeholders to understand requirements, integrating business knowledge with technical solutions.
Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or a related field required. Work experience may substitute for education requirement. Epic certification in area of support or certification obtained within 12 weeks of completing Epic training with no more than two (2) testing attempts required.

Preferred Skills
  • Familiarity with inpatient clinical documentation and nursing workflows
  • Ability to analyze and document workflows
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with clinical, operational, and technical stakeholders
  • Ability to work on assigned tasks while appropriately escalating complex issuesEpic Clin Doc certification preferred
  • 1-2 years of Epic application experience preferred
  • Experience supporting Epic upgrades, implementations, or optimizations initiatives preferred
