Job summary

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC) is seeking an Environmental Emergency Response professional for a split role within the Division of Environmental Remediation. Duties include responding to petroleum spills and bulk storage inspections, with responsibilities spanning the Spill Response and Bulk Storage programs.

The role involves after-hours responses, detailed reporting, overseeing contractors, and collaboration with DEC attorneys for enforcement and cost

Qualifications

• Experience in emergency response and spill cleanup.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to organize and manage documentation and databases.

Responsibilities

• Respond to petroleum and chemical spills during day and after hours.
• Prepare detailed inspection reports and update spills database.
• Oversee contractors for spill cleanup and enforcement actions.
• Review investigative reports and remedial action plans for completeness and accuracy.
• Assist with enforcement and cost recovery documentation.
• Perform bulk storage inspections and issue notices of violation as needed.
• Ensure follow-up to correct violations and refer for legal enforcement.
