The New York Department of Environmental Conservation seeks a professional to respond to petroleum and chemical spills and manage bulk storage compliance in the Buffalo area. The role covers emergency response to spill incidents, investigation and oversight of cleanup operations, and inspection of regulated facilities, coordinating with contractors and legal offices.

Team-based work with flexibility in duties to be discussed at interview.

Competenze

• 4–6 years of experience in environmental program policy development or related fields
• Valid driver’s license and ability to use state vehicles
• OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training or equivalent emergency response certifications
• Excellent verbal and written communication; MS Office proficiency
• Ability to work after-hours, weekends, holidays, and on-call rotations

This position in the Department of Environmental Conservation's Division of Environmental Remediation involves responding to petroleum and chemical spills and managing bulk storage compliance in the Buffalo area. The role includes emergency response to spill incidents, investigation and oversight of cleanup operations, inspection of regulated facilities, and coordination with contractors and legal offices. The successful candidate will work on a team handling both spill response and bulk storage program areas, with flexibility in duties to be discussed during interviews.

Key qualifications:

• Four to six years of experience (depending on level) in environmental program policy development, contract management, technical analysis, or program implementation


• Valid driver's license required; must be able to use state vehicles and meet transportation needs


• Must successfully complete or have completed OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training and other emergency response certifications


• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and proficiency in MS Office


• Ability to work after-hours emergency response, weekends, holidays, and 24-hour rotational on-call availability
