Job summary

Carus is seeking an Environmental Specialist to support environmental compliance and day-to-day operations across manufacturing and landfill sites, ensuring permits and regulations are met while enhancing a safety-driven culture.

Reporting to the EHSS Manager, you will lead investigations, drive continuous improvement, manage regulatory reporting with agencies like EPA and OSHA, and partner across functions to strengthen EHSS programs across the organization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental, engineering, health & safety, or another technical field.
  • 2-5 years of relevant experience in a regulated chemical manufacturing or chemical-using facility.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to management multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Proven critical thinking skills and high ethical standards.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills; ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to obtain an Industrial Class K Wastewater license and Certified Landfill Operator license.
  • Experience with environmental permitting, compliance audits, root cause analysis, and interaction with regulatory agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and positively influence others without direct authority.
  • Working knowledge of EPA FESOP and Title V, NPDES/POTW, RCRA, and solid waste landfill operations.

  • Support environmental compliance and day-to-day environmental operations across multiple sites.
  • Partner cross-functionally to assess environmental risk and implement compliance programs.
  • Coordinate inspections, investigations, and corrective actions for EHSS incidents.
  • Manage regulatory reporting, recordkeeping, and audits (EPA, DOT, OSHA).
  • Assist with landfill oversight and coordination with engineering on landfill cell construction.
  • Promote environmental awareness and a strong safety culture through training and communication.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Reporting to the Environmental, Health, Safety, and Security (EHSS) Manager, the Environmental Specialist will:

  • Support environmental compliance and day-to-day environmental operations across multiple manufacturing and landfill sites, ensuring adherence to applicable regulations and permits.
  • Partner cross‑functionally to assess environmental risk, implement compliance programs, and drive continuous improvement aligned with business and customer objectives.
  • Coordinate inspections, investigations, and corrective actions related to environmental and EHSS incidents, including root cause analysis and follow‑through.
  • Manage regulatory reporting, recordkeeping, and audits for agencies such as EPA, DOT, OSHA, and other governing bodies.
  • Assist with landfill oversight, including compliance, usage tracking, and coordination with engineering on landfill cell construction.
  • Promote environmental awareness and a strong safety and compliance culture through collaboration, training, and effective communication
THE QUALIFICATIONS

The right candidate will be a self‑motivated, detail‑oriented environmental professional who thrives in a regulated manufacturing environment. They will bring strong ethical judgment, critical thinking, and confidence to lead investigations, influence others, and partner cross‑functionally. In addition, they will be organized, proactive, and passionate about continuous improvement, environmental compliance, and building strong EHSS culture across the organization. Your credentials ideally include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental, engineering, health & safety, or another technical field
