Job summary

The City of Auburn, AL is seeking an Environmental Services Technician - Recycling to support the Recycling Division in collecting recyclable materials and refuse. This position reports to the Recycling Division Manager and requires adherence to city policies.

Job Summary

This position is responsible for the collection of recyclable materials and refuse. This position reports to the Recycling Division Manager.

  • Performs collection and disposal duties along premeditated routes.

Qualifications
Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent; one (1) to three (3) years’ experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Qualifications
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License.

  • Knowledge of collection procedures and routes.

  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance techniques as related to division equipment and vehicles.
  • Knowledge of local government operations, policies and plans, and modern office practices and procedures.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work is heavy work, which requires exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, bending, crouching, or walking. The employee uses tools or equipment requiring manual dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work is typically performed in various outdoor environments. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, irritating chemicals, and occasional cold or inclement weather. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
