Job summary

City of Auburn, AL Environmental Services is seeking an Environmental Services Technician - Solid Waste (PT). This role performs solid waste collection on preplanned routes, operates and maintains assigned vehicles, and reports to the Solid Waste Division Manager.

Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent and 1–3 years of experience, with possession of or ability to obtain a valid Class B CDL. The position is temporary and part-time.

Job Summary

This position is responsible for the collection of solid waste. This position reports to the Solid Waste Division Manager.

Essential Job Functions

• Performs collection and disposal duties along premeditated routes.
• Performs equipment operation and maintenance duties.
• Inspects and maintains assigned vehicle on a daily basis.
• Performs other related job duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent; one (1) to three (3) years' experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Qualifications

• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License.

Physical Demands

The work is heavy work, which requires exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, bending, crouching, or walking. The employee uses tools or equipment requiring manual dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.

Work Environment

The work is typically performed in various outdoor environments. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, irritating chemicals, and occasional cold or inclement weather. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
