Job Summary
Performs a variety of healthcare environmental services (EVS) duties to enhance the healthcare environment by maintaining the assigned location. Follows special healthcare cleaning and trash handling techniques, ensuring a professional service standard while performing the job. Adheres to system‑wide and department‑specific service standards. Responsible for ensuring the best patient/family/customer experience by optimizing all customer interactions. Fosters a positive work environment through mutual support and cooperation.
Job Duties
- Clean and disinfect patient rooms, surgical suites, clinical areas, office spaces, corridors and stairwells, following current industry best practice and established policy.
- Handle various waste streams including municipal waste, recyclable waste, pharmaceutical waste, bio‑hazardous waste, chemotherapeutic waste and sharps.
- Wear standard personal protective equipment and adhere to posted isolation precautions when entering an isolation room.
- Follow procedures for the proper use of hospital‑approved chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
- Place appropriate signage in areas to indicate cleaning is occurring and floor is wet to reduce fall risk.
- Report identified repairs as directed according to current established policy or protocol.
- Utilize mobile technology to ensure compliance with bed management procedures and other environmental services functions performed daily.
- Gather and properly dispose of clear‑bag and red‑bag waste.
- Properly operate chemclave and autoclave for red‑bag waste, package waste for shipment when needed.
- Maintain competency in current supplemental cleaning technologies under Infection Control direction.
- Prepare special case waste disposal setups for use within the OR as directed.
- Clean and disinfect all equipment before entry into the OR suite.
- Familiar with fluid waste management systems and proper docking for sanitizing and re‑service.
- Perform weekly detail cleaning of ORs including high dusting, wall washing, ceilings, tracks, vents, lights and booms.
- Scrub floors in ORs, sub‑sterile areas and scrub sink areas with powered floor care equipment.
- Extract carpets or direct use of carpet care equipment safely, using appropriate chemicals and procedures.
- Operate bonnet shampooing and spotting carpet equipment as necessary.
- Collect soiled linen and transport to hospital staging area for vendor pickup.
- All EVS staff entering medication rooms must receive mandatory education on proper medication room protocol.
- Stand, walk, bend, lift up to 50 lbs.; carry and push carts from 100 to 500 lbs. while performing duties.
- Work under a variety of temperature conditions and transport items outside in all weather.
- Stand for long periods and walk long distances to perform cleaning and disinfecting tasks of high and low areas.
- Perform job duties correctly within established EVS standards to facilitate patient throughput.
- Tolerate visual, auditory, and scent exposures associated with medical and surgical care.
- Work within office, clinical, or classroom environments, frequently around patients, families, and clinical providers.
- Accountable for satisfying all job‑specific obligations and complying with all organization policies and procedures.
Position Details
Hours for this part‑time position are 2:30pm to 11:00pm with weekend and holiday rotation. The EVS team provides environmental services 24hours a day, 7 days a week, including weekends and holidays.
Compensation & Benefits
Sign‑on bonus up to $1,250 for eligible candidates and $2.00 shift differential for evening and night shifts. Competitive compensation and benefits packages. Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) – Preferred.
