Job Summary
Provides leadership within the Environmental Services (EVS) department, ensuring compliance with safety and sanitation regulations. The role involves coordinating cleaning activities, training staff, and maintaining high service standards in a clinical environment.
Responsibilities
- Schedules breaks and lunches daily for all assigned staff.
- Utilizes the staff schedule to plan for sufficient daily staffing.
- Coordinates with the Supervisor, Manager, or Director as necessary.
- Facilitates communication between shifts to ensure continuity of service.
- Assists with the development of performance improvement plans for staff.
- Ensures timely and effective response to all department requests and requirements.
- Mentors and empowers employees by delegating responsibilities and addressing performance issues.
- Uses wireless technology to monitor bed tracking status in designated patient departments and areas.
- Manages inventory of EVS supplies.
- Maintains all work areas in a clean and orderly condition.
- Observes and promotes fire prevention and safety practices.
- Follows all infection control policies.
- Monitors daily sign‑in sheets and adjusts assignments for call‑offs, census, and other factors.
- Oversees the work performance of Environmental Services personnel.
- Ensures all assigned areas are clean, safe, and orderly.
- Provides input to the Supervisor on performance evaluations of assigned personnel.
- Rearranges work assignments for all shifts as necessary.
- Conducts quality improvement inspections of assigned areas routinely.
- Provides mandatory education on Medication Room protocol to all EVS staff who enter Medication Rooms (where applicable).
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) – preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of related work experience – required.
- Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Technician (CHEST) within 18 months of hire.
