Job summary

Geisinger Shamokin Area Community Hospital seeks a dayshift EVS technician to maintain a clean and safe hospital environment. The role covers patient rooms, clinical areas, and public spaces, with emphasis on infection control and customer service. 40 hours weekly, dayshift, weekend/holiday rotation, and opportunities for CHEST certification.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Clean and disinfect patient rooms, surgical suites, and corridors per policy.
  • Handle and dispose of waste streams including hazardous waste.
  • Follow PPE and isolation precautions when entering rooms.
  • Use hospital cleaners and equipment safely to protect floors/fixtures.
  • Maintain signages and report repairs as directed.
  • Support bed tracking and equipment inventory with mobile tools.
  • Work in a clinical environment adhering to safety standards.

Job Summary

Performs a variety of healthcare environmental services (EVS) duties to enhance the healthcare environment by maintaining the location assigned. Follows special healthcare cleaning and trash handling techniques as required ensuring professional and appropriate service standard while performing the job. Responsible for ensuring the very best patient/family/customer experience by optimizing all customer interactions.

Job Duties
  • Cleans and disinfects patient rooms, surgical suites, clinical areas, office spaces, corridors and stairwells as assigned by adhering to current industry best practice and established policy.
  • Handles various waste streams, including municipal waste, recyclable waste, pharmaceutical waste, bio hazardous waste, chemotherapeutic waste and sharps.
  • Wears standard personal protective equipment and adheres to posted isolation precautions when entering an isolation room.
  • Follows procedures for the proper use of hospital approved chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
  • Places the appropriate signage in an area to indicate cleaning is occurring and floor is wet to reduce the risk of falls.
  • Reports identified facility repairs as directed or observed, according to current established policy or procedure.
  • Utilizes mobile technology to ensure compliance with bed tracking procedures and other environmental services functions that are performed daily.
  • Operates chemclave and autoclave for red bag waste in conjunction with regulatory requirements were applicable and properly packages red bag waste for shipment when chemclave and autoclave technology is not available.
  • Cleans and disinfects all equipment before entry into the OR suite.
  • Is familiar with fluid waste management systems and placement in the docking station for proper emptying and sanitizing as well as placing back into service.
  • Performs detailed cleaning to include dusting, wall washing, ceilings, tracks, vents, lights and booms.
  • Performs scrubbing, finish removal, buffing / burnishing and recoating of floors where applicable with powered floor care equipment.
  • Extracts carpets or can direct the proper use of carpet care equipment in a safe and effective manner, utilizing the appropriate chemicals and procedures.
  • Utilizes ladders to remove and install privacy curtains while adhering to isolation cleaning protocols as well as scheduled cleaning.
  • Collects soiled linen and transports to hospital staging area for vendor pickup.
  • Assists Team Leader with the inventory management of supplies via mobile technology.
  • Responsible for or can direct staff to accomplish project work to include moving of equipment and office materials, construction cleaning and emergency disaster cleaning.
  • All EVS Staff who enter Medication Rooms (Where Applicable) must receive mandatory education on proper Medication Room protocol.
  • Work is typically performed in a clinical environment.

Position Details

Join our EVS team and play a critical role in hospital cleanliness! Hours for this position are 7:00 am to 3:30 pm + weekend and holiday rotation. EVS provides healthcare environmental services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including weekends and holidays. We clean and disinfect both patient and non-patient areas, helping to prevent communicable diseases by thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting public areas, hospital office and administrative areas, patient rooms, restrooms and hallways.
