Job description

Environmental Services Technician - Murdoch Developmental Center

Starting Salary: $31,200!
As of January 1, 2025, the new salary range will be $31,200 - $46,991.

The Environmental Services Technician (Housekeeping) position is responsible for a variety of duties in the care and cleaning of people’s bedrooms, bathrooms, classrooms, dayrooms, and other State buildings. Duties may include physically strenuous activities such as moving furniture. Work is performed under close supervision, guided by a daily schedule for general assignments. Work is reviewed through inspections and frequent consultation with supervisory personnel.

Examples of duties performed include:

  • Clean showers, commodes, and lavatories daily;
  • Wash beds, bedside tables, and other furniture as needed;
  • Dust blinds;
  • Wash walls if needed;
  • Collect and remove trash.

Work Schedule: 6:30 am – 3:00 pm Monday – Friday and holidays as assigned.

This position is designated Mandatory and must report or stay over during adverse weather events.

About Murdoch Developmental Center

Murdoch Developmental Center is a 24/7 state residential facility located in Butner, NC, near the Research Triangle area. Murdoch serves individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD). It is a caring community where professionals work with people of various ages, cognitive and functional abilities.

Minimum Qualifications

To be considered for employment, applicants must be in good standing with the North Carolina Health Care Personnel Registry. Qualified candidates must document on the application that they possess all of the following:

  • General knowledge of cleaning procedures;
  • Housekeeping experience;
  • Must be able to read, write and follow oral and written instructions;
  • Must be able to visually inspect work area to assure it has been cleaned.
Physical Requirements
  • Walking, standing for long periods of time, bending, stooping and lifting up to 50 lbs, pushing housekeeping carts.
Education and Experience Requirements

Education and/or experience in housekeeping work that is directly related to the job.
