Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan Inc. seeks an Environmental Scientist II or Environmental Engineer II to join our safety‑driven team. You will install, operate, and maintain monitoring equipment, analyze data for regulatory compliance, and help develop risk‑reduction programs in a mining environment.

The role involves collaboration with management, detailed record-keeping, and potential project leadership or technical expertise on environmental projects, across a site with mining and processing operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant science or engineering field with years of environmental experience.
• Additional certification or licensure such as HAZWOPER, Method 9, DOT, EMS Auditor, Asbestos, Water Treatment Operator, or CHMM may be required or preferred.
• Ability to understand and apply English verbal and written work instructions and safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Installs, operates, and maintains environmental monitoring instruments and tests for regulatory compliance.
• Evaluates environmental risk and develops programs for risk reduction.
• Collaborates with management to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Prepares and maintains detailed records of environmental data and communications.
• Leads or participates in audits and inspections of operations areas for EMS compliance.
• Acts as project manager or technical expert on small to medium environmental projects.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Technology, Earth Science or related natural science (such as Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Hydrology, Forestry, Agriculture, Meteorology, Environmental/Natural Resource Management) or Mathematics/Computer Science including Accounting and Finance, or, Business Management or other Bachelor’s degree, and at least three (3) years environmental or related experience

Master’s degree in a related field and at least one (1) year environmental or related experience

Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Environmental, Civil, Chemical, Agricultural, Mining, Metallurgical, Geological or similar) and at least three (3) years environmental or related experience

Master’s degree in Engineering in a related field and at least one (1) year environmental or related experience
