Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan is seeking an experienced Chief Environmental Scientist to lead environmental programs at our Phoenix-area site. You will manage safety, compliance, remediation and water quality efforts, coordinating with site management and vendors to ensure regulatory adherence.

You will oversee contracts, provide regulatory guidance, contribute to budgeting and strategy, and supervise complex environmental projects while staying current on EPA and state regulations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and 7 years of related experience, or Master’s degree with 5 years.
• Additional certification or licensure such as HAZWOPER, DOT, EMS, Auditor, Asbestos, Water Treatment Operator, or CHMM may be required or preferred.
• Ability to travel domestically up to 30% and internationally up to 5% of the time.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, manage and evaluate environmental programs and systems.
• Develop, supervise and assess environmental safety, compliance, remediation and reclamation programs.
• Supervise and monitor water quality environmental practices for the site.
• Report environmental compliance issues and advise site management on corrections.
• Serve as Project Manager on large and complex environmental projects including permitting and remediation.
• Provide guidance on applicable programs and regulations to site management.
• Contribute to site budgeting and strategic planning for environmental systems.
