Description of Work Unit: CEMML is a research, education and service unit within the Warner College of Natural Resources at Colorado State University (CSU). CEMML applies the latest and most appropriate science to promote the sustainable management of natural and cultural resources on Department of Defense (DoD) and other public lands. We provide technical support, conduct applied research, and offer career development and learning opportunities to support resource stewardship.

An Environmental Restoration Technician position is available with the Air National Guard (ANG) through Colorado State University Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands (CEMML). This position is located at the Air National Guard Readiness Center (ANGRC) at Joint Base Andrews, MD.

This is a professional development position through CEMML's Early-career Development Program (ECDP) to mentor and prepare a recent graduate from a master’s program in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering, or related program for a professional-level Restoration Program Management position in as little as three years.

Required Job Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in the related field (e.g., environmental science, environmental engineering, soil science, physical science) and have no more than three years of professional experience.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local environmental laws, and regulations (e.g., Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Defense Environmental Restoration Program (DERP)).
  • Demonstrated ability to search technical reports, manufacturers’ catalogs, and other guidelines and publications to obtain information, prepare reports, and perform compliance-related assignments.
  • Ability to use relevant software programs and databases to gather information and prepare reports and communicate critical information.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license by the employment start date.
  • The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. by proposed start date; CEMML will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.

Preferred Job Qualifications:

  • Experience with in-water or upland remediation sites, including the planning and implementation of sampling, data analysis, feasibility studies, and remedial design.
  • Ability to apply environmental concepts and principles and other guidance to make recommendations concerning restoration, compliance, conservation, and pollution prevention projects.

Job Duty Categories and Responsibilities:

  1. Restoration Program Compliance Support (65%): Assist in executing and managing projects; collect, manage, and analyze data; prepare reports and other project deliverables as directed.
  2. Coordination and Communication (25%): Request and interpret ANGRC guidance for proposed actions; provide regular and timely status updates on Restoration Projects.
  3. Budget and Planning Support (10%): Provide information and data to ensure that Restoration Program needs are included in Planning, Programming, Budgeting and Execution.
