Job summary

West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection is seeking an Environmental Resources Specialist 2 to assist with the operation and maintenance of water treatment facilities. The role involves mastering multiple operating systems to meet discharge limits and collecting data for reports on facility operations and watershed plans.

The position requires a Bachelor’s degree and two years of related professional experience, with substitutions allowed for additional coursework.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Two years of full-time or equivalent paid professional experience in environmental/natural resources or related area.
• Graduate coursework may substitute for experience at the rate of fifteen (15) semester hours for every one (1) year of experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the operation and maintenance of highly technical water treatment facilities.
• Master knowledge of several unique operating systems within treatment facilities to meet discharge limits.
• Collect data and prepare statistical and narrative reports on facility operations and watershed plans.
• Communicate effectively with watershed groups, state and local officials, and the public.
• Conduct field inspections of the watershed to identify pollution sources and assess environmental impact.
