Job description

Job DescriptionJob Description
Environmental Remediation Construction Superintendent
Remote / Travel-Based | U.S. Projects

A growing environmental remediation contractor is seeking an experienced, hands-on Construction Superintendent to lead field execution on complex remediation projects across the United States. This is a travel-based role for a practical, safety-driven field leader who is comfortable operating in remote project locations and taking ownership of day-to-day site performance.

The successful candidate will serve as the on-site operational leader, partnering closely with a Project Manager while directing crews, subcontractors, equipment, sequencing, safety, quality, and schedule execution. Projects may include soil and groundwater remediation, excavation, treatment-system installation and operation, dewatering, piping, pumps, process equipment, contaminated-media handling, and related civil or industrial field construction.

This is not a desk-based project-management role. We are looking for a “boots-on-the-ground” superintendent with substantial environmental remediation experience who can make sound field decisions, communicate clearly, and maintain a safe, productive site under challenging conditions.

What you’ll do
  • Lead daily field operations on environmental remediation and environmental construction projects, including CCR pond and ash basin closure/remediation programs, ranging from smaller short-duration assignments to large, multi-phase programs
  • Serve as the senior on-site representative and primary field partner to the Project Manager.
  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise crews, foremen, subcontractors, equipment operators, and specialty vendors.
  • Drive safe work execution and ensure compliance with project-specific health and safety plans, company procedures, regulatory requirements, and client expectations.
  • Conduct daily safety meetings, pre-task planning, toolbox talks, field inspections, and documentation.
  • Coordinate work involving remediation systems, including treatment equipment, piping, pumps, tanks, filtration, dewatering, process components, and related utilities.
  • Oversee field activities involving contaminated soil, groundwater, sludge, excavation, material handling, hauling, civil work, and heavy equipment.
  • Build and maintain short-interval plans, daily work plans, manpower plans, equipment plans, and look-ahead schedules.
  • Monitor production, labor, equipment utilization, material needs, and subcontractor performance to keep projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Identify field constraints early and communicate practical solutions to the Project Manager and internal leadership.
  • Read and execute against plans, specifications, scopes of work, permits, work plans, and technical drawings.
  • Maintain high-quality daily reports, safety records, timekeeping, production tracking, photographs, delivery records, and field documentation.
  • Coordinate mobilization, site setup, temporary facilities, laydown areas, equipment logistics, and demobilization.
  • Build strong working relationships with clients, inspectors, subcontractors, suppliers, and site personnel.
  • Mentor field personnel and help establish a disciplined, collaborative, accountable jobsite culture.
  • Travel continuously or semi-continuously to project locations, including rural and remote areas.
What we’re looking for
  • 10+ years of environmental remediation, environmental construction, or closely related field-supervision experience.Prefer direct hands-on experience on Coal Combustion Residual (CCR) projects — ash pond closures, ash basin remediation, CCR landfill construction, dewatering of coal ash, or equivalent utility/power-sector remediation work
  • Demonstrated experience serving as a superintendent, field superintendent, general superintendent, lead supervisor, or senior foreman on remediation projects.
  • Strong working knowledge of soil and groundwater remediation methods, environmental field operations, and construction-site execution.
  • Experience in one or both of the following technical areas:
  • Treatment-system installation, piping, pumps, mechanical process equipment, plumbing, water treatment, or groundwater treatment systems.
  • Heavy civil / earthwork / excavation / contaminated-soil handling / dewatering / sludge or material processing.
  • Broad remediation experience across both field construction and treatment-system work is strongly .
  • Proven ability to lead crews and subcontractors in active, high-accountability field environments.
  • Strong knowledge of heavy equipment, field logistics, excavation safety, utility coordination, and construction sequencing.
  • Ability to interpret plans, specifications, P&IDs, piping drawings, site plans, schedules, and technical work packages.
  • Sound judgment, calm communication style, and the ability to solve problems independently in the field.
  • A track record of maintaining safe, organized, productive projects—not simply overseeing paperwork from a distance.
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively and work in remote locations for extended project assignments.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet company driving and travel requirements.
qualifications
  • OSHA 30-hour certification.
  • HAZWOPER 40-hour certification and current refreshers.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Experience with groundwater treatment systems, pump-and-treat systems, water-treatment processes, dewatering, filtration, air sparging, soil vapor extraction, or similar remediation technologies.
  • Experience with industrial, municipal, refinery, power, chemical, landfill, mining, manufacturing, or brownfield remediation projects.
  • Knowledge of environmental compliance requirements, including field documentation and waste-handling procedures.
  • Prior experience working on projects in rural, industrial, or otherwise logistically challenging locations.
Travel and work arrangement

This role is built for someone who enjoys field work and is comfortable traveling where projects are located. Assignments may be in remote areas across the U.S., including the Gulf Coast, West Texas, the Midwest, Appalachia, and other regions.

  • Project rotations commonly involve 30–60 days on site, followed by scheduled time at home, subject to project needs and individual circumstances.
  • Project duration may range from several months to longer-term assignments.
  • The company offers flexibility around time off between assignments and recognizes that successful superintendents need a sustainable travel arrangement.
  • Lodging support, per diem, and/or RV or trailer accommodations may be available depending on the project and employee preference.
  • Candidates who travel with an RV or trailer—and are comfortable establishing longer-term remote-site accommodations—are welcome to apply.
Compensation and incentives
  • Base salary typically in the range of $120,000–$180,000, commensurate with remediation experience, technical depth, and field leadership capability.
  • Project-based performance bonus opportunities.
  • Superintendents may be eligible for incentives tied directly to project profitability and margin performance.
  • Travel support, per diem and/or lodging accommodations, and benefits package provided.
  • Significant opportunity for advancement with a growing contractor executing increasingly complex remediation work.
Why this opportunity

This is an opportunity to join a field-oriented environmental contractor that values experienced superintendents as essential operational leaders. You will have meaningful autonomy, direct impact on project performance, and the chance to work on technically challenging remediation projects where strong field execution truly matters.

The company takes a deliberate approach to onboarding new leaders. Initial placement may include working alongside an established team on a larger project before assuming responsibility for smaller independent assignments. This allows both the superintendent and the company to build trust, align on communication expectations, and set the individual up for long-term success.
