Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Department of Environmental Protection is seeking an Environmental Group Manager to lead professional staff, ensure safety standards, and support major cleanup and compliance efforts. This role drives program oversight and regulatory compliance to safeguard health and the environment.

Based in Pennsylvania, the position offers telework up to 3 days per week and requires travel for site visits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in the biological, physical, or environmental sciences, engineering, or in a field closely related to environmental protection or regulation; and five years of professional environmental protection experience; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Responsibilities

• Manage waste regulatory programs to ensure inspections, enforcement, and activities follow state and federal requirements
• Direct daily operations, review work performance, provide guidance, and ensure training needs are met
• Evaluate case files, enforcement recommendations, facility operations, and regulatory adherence
• Coordinate staff coverage and support cleanup efforts following hazardous releases, spills, or natural disasters
• Maintain accurate entries in DEP systems and use tools to monitor trends and program effectiveness
• Meet with facility operators, officials, and partners to explain rules and exchange information
