Job summary

The Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality is seeking a Natural Resources Principal to supervise the VRP Brownfields Assistance Program and the Orphan Sites Remediation Program. The role focuses on protecting human health and the environment through investigating and remediating contaminated sites, with primary goals to return properties to productive use and benefit Wyoming communities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree required in a science field with preference for geology, engineering, environmental or natural sciences and at least four years of professional environmental work experience.
• Experience in grant writing and oversight of remediation projects is preferred.
• Ability to supervise staff and manage multiple projects and contracts.
• Knowledge of Federal, State and local environmental laws and guidance including grant administration and reporting requirements.

Responsibilities

• Supervise multiple direct reports with strong leadership and communication.
• Apply for and manage EPA Brownfields Grants and other funding opportunities, coordinating with DEQ accounting for reporting.
• Produce grant applications, reports and correspondence.
• Identify, investigate and remediate contaminated properties and identify funding opportunities.
• Review technical data and provide recommendations on enforcement and remediation strategies.
• Represent the agency in meetings with state, federal, private entities and stakeholders.
