Job summary

State of Indiana seeks an environmental professional for INDOT Vincennes District to serve as an environmental expert guiding regulated communities and officials. You will manage projects, handle permits, inspections, and enforcement to ensure compliance with state and federal laws across Indiana.

Travel to sites and public meetings are expected as part of delivering oversight and technical support. Experience in environmental science and strong writing skills are essential; a degree is not

Qualifications

  • Broad knowledge of environmental protection principles and practices across programs.
  • Thorough knowledge of chemistry, biology, hydrology, mathematics, engineering in environmental contexts.
  • Understanding of soil, water, air sampling and laboratory analysis.
  • Ability to prepare documents for administrative and regulatory action.
  • Excellent research and writing skills for precise reports.
  • Strong communication with diverse stakeholders on legal/environmental topics.
  • Ability to interpret and apply legal terminology in various conditions.
  • Five years of environmental or environmental public health experience if no degree is required.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as an environmental expert and guides regulated communities and officials.
  • Performs project management to meet program needs and timelines, including technical reviews.
  • Researches and processes state and federal permits; engages with applicants and hearings.
  • Conducts surveys, inspections, and investigations; provides regulatory guidance.
  • Enforces compliance and works to return regulated sources to standards.
  • Supports multiple agency programs and conducts field sampling per SOPs.
  • Communicates with stakeholders about permits, laws, and program inquiries.
  • Travel to various sites for inspections, audits, and report writing.
