Job summary

Apex Companies seeks an Environmental Principal Engineer in Pittsburgh to lead site investigations, remediation, permitting, and compliance projects while growing the Pittsburgh metro office. You will recruit and manage a multidisciplinary team, build client relationships, and coordinate with regulators to ensure project success.

Ideal candidates have a 4-year degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Science, or Civil Engineering and 15+ years of relevant experience.

Qualifications

• 4-year degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Science, or Civil Engineering.
• Professional certification (e.g., PG, LSRP, PE) strongly preferred.
• 15+ years of progressive experience in environmental investigation, remediation, permitting, or compliance.
• Proven ability to manage both technical staff and project managers and develop client relationships.
• Regulatory knowledge: PADEP/NJDEP/EPA guidance in their domain.
• Desire to grow the Pittsburgh metro office and contribute to long-term success.
• Build national networks and drive cross-collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Establish, manage, and grow a new branch with division and regional support.
• Recruit, build, and manage a team of staff for office operations and projects.
• Develop and implement strategies to recruit new clients and expand opportunities.
• Lead project management for Site Assessments & Remediation, Emergency Response, and Compliance services.
• Mentor junior engineers and design staff.
• Serve as primary client contact and participate in external technical organizations.
