Job summary

Stantec is seeking a Regulatory Specialist in Williamsburg, VA to join our Environmental Services team. This role focuses on regulatory compliance, permitting, and project deliverables for energy sector projects across the North American network.

The role requires coordinating with state and federal agencies, preparing permit applications, and providing technical regulatory support, while managing tasks and subcontractors within a busy project environment.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience with local, Commonwealth of Virginia and/or State of North Carolina, and federal environmental regulations, licensing, and permitting within the utility sector, specifically electric transmission and/or generation.
• Experience with major environmental acts and permits (e.g., Clean Water Act Section 404, NEPA, CPCN licensing).
• Ability to identify and solve problems with safety in mind; strong communication and multi‑tasking abilities.

Responsibilities

• Environmental regulatory and permitting responsibilities: Identify project-specific environmental regulatory requirements.
• Complete project desktop reviews to determine environmental constraints; draft documentation to summarize findings.
• Coordinate state, federal, and local government approvals, including preparation of final submittals.
• Prepare environmental permit applications, gather supporting documentation, and coordinate comment responses with agencies.
• Write and review technical reports.
• Coordinate preparation, review, and editing of technical documents like CPCN applications.
